Katie Karas, MFT Intern
Katie Karas has been providing low fee therapy at the Family Therapy Institute since 2005 in Santa Barbara and the Santa Ynez Valley. She received her Masters in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University in 2005 and her Masters in Counseling from California State University at Fullerton in 1981. Prior to her work at the Institute, she trained, worked and specialized in issues around domestic violence and anger management.
Her philosophy in therapy centers on the belief that human beings change and attain optimal personal growth when their physical, emotional, cognitive and spiritual selves are balanced. To that end, she addresses the client's personal and family needs in an effort to balance all parts of the whole within their cultural context.
Married for 28 years and a mother of three, she especially enjoys working with couples, women in transition and relates well to the challenges of raising healthy, resilient youth in our changing society.
Katie's interests are skiing, cycling, rock climbing, and adventure travel including hiking through the Sierras with two big yellow labs. She is a member of CAMFT and raises funds for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society through running and cycling events.
